New Defib Installed in Dawley Bank To Help Save Lives

A brand new defibrillator has recently been installed at the Co-op in Dawley Bank to help save lives within the local community.

The idea to have a defib installed within the area came to light after local resident Mike Rigby, recently suffered a heart attack while at home, and was unable to get an ambulance to his address quickly. Luckily, his niece who was nearby, drove Mike to the Princess Royal Hospital and was said to have had an extremely close call.

Following a conversation with Co-op staff, Borough Councillors for Malinslee & Dawley Bank Cllrs Shaun Davies and Lord Sahota, decided to fund this project through their Councillor Pride Fund. Great Dawley Town Council were also able to match-fund and oversee the installation of the defibrillator while working alongside the Co-op.

Councillor Shaun Davies – Chair of Great Dawley Town Council and Leader of Telford & Wrekin Council said:

“Defibrillators are an important resource which can be used by the local community. After hearing Mike’s story about his recent heart attack, myself and Lord Sahota were more than happy to have offered funding through our Councillor Pride Funding to help get a defib installed within Dawley Bank.”

We would like to thank Tracey who approached us with the idea, and all the staff at The Co-Operative in Dawley Bank for agreeing to have the defibrillator installed on the outside wall of the store, meaning it is located in a well-known place, and also accessible to the local community 24/7 should the need arise.

We are lucky to have defibs in Dawley High Street, Malinslee Centre and now Dawley Bank and although of course we never want to see them used, its good that they are their to help saves a life.
