Great Dawley Town Council has been honoured with the prestigious Gold award in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS), making it one of the first Town or Parish Councils in the UK to achieve this remarkable feat.
The council’s unwavering support for the Armed Forces and the wider community has been commendable over the years. They have bestowed the ‘Freedom of the Town’ to Shropshire Cadet Forces, celebrated the 75th Anniversary of VE Day with a virtual street party during lockdown, hosted Armed Forces Evenings for local RBL clubs and Help for Heroes, and pioneered the UK’s first Armed Forces Friendly High Street, with over 30 High Street businesses signing the Armed Forces Covenant.
This recognition underscores Great Dawley Town Council’s commitment to fostering a strong bond between the community and the military, setting a shining example for other organisations to follow. Their dedication to supporting the Armed Forces and creating a united community spirit is truly deserving of this prestigious award.
