Community Action Team putting up a Speed Indicator Device (SID)

Speed Indicators

The Town Council wanted to look closer at local roads and speed limits to see if there were any ‘hot spots’ which needed attention in Great Dawley. We wanted to reward drivers under your speed limit but to also warn traffic moving to quickly and then be able to send this data off for monitoring. It was therefore agreed that the Town Council could purchase 4 SIDS (Speed Indicator Display Signs).

SID signs are interactive led illuminated displays which react to traffic speed. Controlled by in built radar detection devices, each speed sign is able to detect the presence of oncoming vehicles and react to them. The Town Council places these signs across different locations within Great Dawley on a rota or when complaints of speeding are received.

The data is then sent to the Highways Department at Telford & Wrekin Council and the Safer Neighbourhood Team, West Mercia Police for analysing to see if any further action is required.

If you are concerned about traffic speed in your area please initially
REPORT IT to Telford and Wrekin Council.

Following that, please CONTACT US as will reallocate the SIDS and prioritise appropriately.
