Great Dawley Town Council have launched the Great Dawley Community Knitting Challenge for the community to get involved and start knitting during the current lock down and social isolation of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Great Dawley Town Council are encouraging the community to knit an 20cm (8 inch) colourful square. The donated squares will then be sewn into blankets and donated to the hospital, hospice and various charities across Telford.
Community Partners have agreed to collection points located within their businesses and these collection points are located at Co-Op in Dawley Bank, Co-Op in Dawley High Street and Tesco Express in Malinslee Centre where you will be able to leave your donated squares.
The Great Dawley Community Knitting Challenge launched on Monday 8th June 2020 and we will be collecting donations until Friday 28th August 2020.
The Town Council are hoping that the whole community will get involved and want to thank the Community Partners for being collection points and thank those in the community who will be taking part for their support and donations.
The main aims for this knitting challenge is not only to provide blankets donations to hospitals, hospice and various charities but for people in the community to learn a new skill, or re-start their knitting but to also help people who may be feeling isolated and lonely to feel they can be active at home.
“On behalf of the Town Council we would like to encourage as many members of the community to get involved and donate the knitted squares to make a number of blankets to donate to the deserving charities.” - Councillor Shaun Davies, Chair of Great Dawley
